Pittsburg marks Founders Day with photo

City Press Releases, Community Events

May 18, 2026

To mark the City of Pittsburg’s 150th anniversary, the community is invited to join in on a historical photograph.

The event, hosted by the Celebrate Pittsburg committee, will take place at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20—the city’s founders’ day—next to the Gorilla Soccer Pitch on the Pittsburg State University campus. Park at any available spot near the area, including across from the Garfield Weede Building and the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

The photograph will be taken from a bird’s-eye view, with participants of all ages gathering in the shape of a 150. Once the 150 is formed, the rest of the participants will gather around it.

“We are so excited to bring everyone together for this historical photo,” Celebrate Pittsburg Committee President Sarah Runyon said. “It will be a fun way to look back for the next historical anniversary.”

The photographs will be posted online on social media.

During the event, a proclamation will mark Pittsburg’s 150th “birthday,” and the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting to celebrate the anniversary. Food trucks and Pitt150 merchandise will be available at the event. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled and announced on the Pittsburg 150 Celebration Facebook page.
