Halloween Window Painting Contest

City Press Releases, General News

October 8, 2025

Halloween Window Painting Contest is calling for artists.

Last year, Downtown Pittsburg got into the Halloween Spirit by channeling its inner Doctor Frankenstein. It raised the age-old tradition of Halloween-themed window painting back from the dead, reviving the contest to give young artists a chance to show off their artistic skills on local buildings. Now, a year later, the iconic contest has returned once again.

Ryan-Dittman Insurance, the Downtown Advisory Board, The Morning Sun and ArtForms Gallery have teamed up once more to bring a festive flare to participating businesses as the spooky season begins.

The Halloween Window Painting Contest will take place Oct. 14-16, with painting concluding at 7 p.m. on Oct. 17. The contest encourages kids ages 5-12 to compete and show off their artistic talents while contributing their creativity to community. Downtown merchants can register along with their own artists (kids, grandkids, customers, and friends) or request to be assigned to an artist who will paint their window.

All painting materials will be provided free to artists thanks to Ryan-Dittman Insurance. All participating businesses and artists will be highlighted in the Morning Sun as part of a special newspaper insert, which will be published after the contest has concluded.

Artist Guidelines:

  • Open to young artists ages 5-12 years.
  • Two age categories are included: 5-8 and 9-12. A winner will be chosen in each age category.
  • Artist supplies will be picked up at ArtForms Gallery at 620 N. Broadway Street, Pittsburg. Pickup for materials will be Tuesday, Oct. 14 – Thursday, Oct. 16 between noon and 6 p.m.
  • Windows must be painted by 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17. Judging will take place the same day, on Friday, Oct. 17.
  • Artists must have adult supervision while painting. Parents/guardians are responsible for keeping the downtown streetscape, sidewalks, and store windows are free of paint spills, trash or debris.
  • Winners noted with a ribbon design on their Morning Sun ad, and special posts on the Downtown Pittsburg social media pages.
