Fire Department responds to house fire

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 29, the Pittsburg Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 300 block of East Forrest Street. Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames coming from the exterior of a residence.
Crews immediately entered the home to attack the fire and search for occupants. The primary search confirmed that no one was inside. The homeowner and resident later arrived and confirmed that the residence was unoccupied when the fire began.
Fire crews brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. Crews remained on scene to extinguish hot spots and complete overhaul operations. Evergy and Kansas Gas Service were contacted to disconnect utilities. The American Red Cross responded to assist the residents.
No civilian injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
