PITTSBURG, KS – The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Pittsburg for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended 2019.

“We are honored to receive this award for the twenty-fourth consecutive year,” says City of Pittsburg Finance Director Larissa Bowman. “This certificate recognizes our commitment to sound fiscal management and transparency.”

The program acknowledges state and local governments that go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare a comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The report is produced each year by the city’s finance team and it provides members of the city commission, city staff and the public with information about the city’s financial stability.

The CAFR is considered a snapshot of the community’s financial health and is used by companies seeking to relocate to the community, as well as bond-rating agencies that analyze a municipality’s creditworthiness.

The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government agency and its management.
