Tuesday, August 28:

  • Dance Open House & Kick Off, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, at Lincoln Center, 710 W. 9th St., Pittsburg, KS. Meet the instructors, learn a fun dance and register for fall classes on site. Refreshments provided. Attendees will have a chance to win a free class. Those planning to attend should wear closed toe shoes. Ages and times: Ages six and under: 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm.   • Paint the Town Red Downtown Event, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Broadway from 4th to 6th Streets in Downtown, Pittsburg. The Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce will provide family-friendly activities for everyone to enjoy. Kids Fun Run starts at 6:30 pm.   • Preview Book Sale for Friends Members, 5:30 pm, at the Pittsburg Public Library, 308 N. Walnut St., Pittsburg, KS. Beat the crowd and shop early. Not a member?   • Paint the Town Red 5K, 8:00 am, at Leonard H. Axe Library at PSU, 1605 S Joplin St., Pittsburg. The Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a 5K with the Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Department to celebrate Paint the Town Red 2018!  The race starts at the Leonard H. Axe Library on the Campus of PSU, and will end at Champions Plaza outside Carnie Smith Stadium. Registration begins at 7:30 am and the race starts at 8:00 am.   • Little Balkans Days Quilt Show, Petting Zoo and Photo Contest, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, at the Memorial Auditorium, 503 N. Pine St., Pittsburg.   • SEK Art Fest Auction, 6:00 pm, at the Memorial Auditorium lower level, 503 N. Pine St., Pittsburg, KS. The SEK Art Fest is celebrating their sixth year and their fourth art installment. This year, 16 fiberglass benches were created by Mastercraft and local artists have adorned them with stunning imagery. Members of the public are invited to purchase these works of art for their very own! Hors d ’Oeuvres will be served. All proceeds will fund community art events and projects.
