PITTSBURG, KS – In 2026, Pittsburg will celebrate its 150th birthday. This significant milestone in the community’s history has inspired the Celebrate Pittsburg committee to launch “Pittsburg 150” a year-long celebration honoring the community’s past, and highlighting its resilience and progress.

Next week, Pittsburgians will have an opportunity to participate in the planning process with a community brainstorming event called “Plan Pitt 150,” on Thursday, March 28 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm at Root Coffeehouse and Block22 Co-Work Space.

“Celebrate Pittsburg is a group representing organizations across the community that is working with the City of Pittsburg to create a structure for a year-long, community-wide celebration,” says City of Pittsburg Community Development Specialist Sarah Runyon. “We want businesses, civic groups, churches, schools, individuals, and anyone else to feel ownership in this milestone.”

During this free come-and-go event, participants can stop in and jot down their ideas, memories, and input. Attendees will have an opportunity meet the folks behind Celebrate Pittsburg, learn about the Pittsburg 150 initiative, and get involved. People of all ages are welcome to contribute and kids can even draw out their ideas on Pittsburg 150 coloring pages.

For more information about this event contact Sarah Runyon at 620-230-5637 or email sarah.runyon@pittks.org.
