Community Development and Housing

Welcome to the City of Pittsburg Community Development and Housing Department. The Community Development and Housing Department manages the City of Pittsburg Public Housing Authority and programs funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the State of Kansas.

 

Develop Pittsburg

Pittsburg is quickly expanding and opening up more and more jobs. This can create a housing shortage. The City of Pittsburg is working to revitalize property and offer land at reasonable prices.

 

Pittsburg Land Use Plan

The City of Pittsburg developed a land use plan to guide future citywide development patterns. This Plan guides residents, property owners, developers, city staff members, and elected officials in making sound land use, design, and development decisions.

 

Housing Needs Assessment

The City of Pittsburg worked with Novogradac Consulting, LLP to perform a housing needs assessment to provide a comprehensive market study and needs analysis for Pittsburg.

 

Section 8 Rental Assistance 

The Pittsburg Public Housing Authority offers housing subsidies for rental units within the city limits of Pittsburg, Kansas, upon availability of funding.

 

Land Bank

The Pittsburg Land Bank focuses on the conversion of vacant, abandoned, tax-delinquent, or otherwise underused properties into productive use.

 

Low-Income Loan Program 

The intent of this program is to assist low-income families to meet an immediate health and/or safety need.

 

Neighborhood Revitalization Program 

This program promotes revitalization and development by focusing rehabilitation, conservation, and redevelopment within the area.

 

Rural Housing Incentive District 

The City of Pittsburg has established a Rural Housing Incentive District to help the creation of new, moderate income housing within the City limits. 

 

Building Safety Division

Committed to advancing public safety in the built environment through collaboration and community partnership which results in safe, accessible and healthy structures.

 

Planning and Zoning

The Planning Commission/Board of Zoning Appeals works closely with the community in each area of the city to create vibrant, amenity-rich neighborhoods, protect historic resources, and support vital local businesses.

 

Nuisance Codes

The ordinances and codes for control of weeds, trash, vehicles and other nuisances are enforced. The Code Enforcement division is responsible for that enforcement.
