Purpose
The Street Division provides some of the most basic, yet essential services the City has to offer to provide safe and pleasant travel for its citizens and visitors alike. Its mission is to provide for a safe, effective road and street system for the orderly and convenient movement of motorists, pedestrians, and commerce.
Street Maintenance Functions
The general duty of the Division is to care and maintain approximately 320 lane miles of street pavement, including curb & gutter, pavement markings, storm debris removal, and snow removal. This work is done in accordance with established policies and priorities to ensure safe vehicular movement. The Street Division provides a wide variety of services essential to the public, including, but not limited to:
- Bridge and culvert maintenance
- Curb maintenance
- Snow and ice removal
- Mowing and vegetation management of public right-of-ways and properties
- Street and alley maintenance
- Asphalt overlay
- Asphalt and concrete patching
- Pothole patching
- Crack and joint sealing
- Utility cut restoration
- Construction of handicap ramps at intersections
- Grade and gravel alleys
The Street Division also responds to all citizen concerns and emergency calls as situations merit.
Street Sales Tax
The City of Pittsburg has one 1/2 cent sales tax that generates about 2 million dollars per year for maintenance and repair of city streets. Learn more.
