The Family Response Advocate (FRA) Program, located within the Pittsburg Police Department, is a grant-funded program dedicated to strengthening children and families through support, advocacy, and resource connection. By partnering with law enforcement, community organizations, and service providers, the program helps families navigate crises, overcome challenges, and access the services they need to thrive.
Fire Recovery Committee
Referrals are accepted exclusively from Fire Department personnel.
While the program does not replace services offered by the American Red Cross, it provides additional community-based support and resources to help fire survivors address needs that may arise during the recovery process.

The Family Response Advocate Program is a grant-funded initiative that partners with law enforcement, community agencies, and service providers to support children and families experiencing crisis, trauma, or other challenges.
The Family Response Advocate Program serves families who are expecting a child or have a child under the age of 18 living in the home. Services may include support, advocacy, resource referrals, and connections to community services.
Referrals may be made by law enforcement officers, schools, healthcare providers, community agencies, partner organizations, or through self-referral when appropriate.

No. Family Response Advocate services are provided at no cost to families.
The Family Response Advocate Program is located within the Pittsburg Police Department; however, all Family Response Advocates are non-sworn civilian staff and are not police officers. Family Response Advocates are here to support families by offering advocacy, resources, referrals, and connections to helpful community services.
No. The Family Response Advocate Program serves as a bridge to existing community resources and works collaboratively with other agencies to help families access appropriate services.
Assistance may include resource referrals, advocacy, safety planning, crisis support, developmental screening referrals, housing and utility resource connections, behavioral health referrals, and other family support services.
The Family Response Advocate Program respects privacy and confidentiality. Information is shared only as permitted by law and with appropriate releases of information when required. Family Response Advocates are also mandated reporters and are required by law to report suspected child abuse, neglect, or situations that may place a child or vulnerable person at risk.
The Family Response Advocate Program’s direct services are limited to Crawford County residents. If you live outside of Crawford County, we may be able to provide information about agencies and resources available in your local area.
Through the Pittsburg Police Department’s partnership with the Safe Kids Program, eligible families may receive a car seat at no cost. Pittsburg Police Department staff include certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians who can assist with car seat selection, installation, and education to help ensure your child is traveling safely. To check for car seat availability and schedule an appointment, please call 620-235-0400 and ask to speak with a Child Passenger Safety Technician.
