Street improvement work to begin

City Press Releases

September 20, 2021

PITTSBURG, Kansas – Notice to Proceed will be issued to the contractor for the 2022 CCLIP (SP) Resurfacing Project on Broadway Street (US-69B) and West 4th Street (K-126) on Monday, September 20, 2021. The contractor plans to set up the work zone on that date but will not actually begin work on the project until Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

This project consists of constructing a 2” Mill, 2” Overlay, Repair Patching, and Pavement Markings for North Broadway Street from 2nd Street to 11th Street and for West 4th Street from Broadway Street to Pine Street.

The contractor is scheduled to begin work in the northbound lanes north of the intersection of 4th and Broadway and will continue north to 11th Street.  Contractor will then move to the southbound lanes and will continue south to 2nd Street.  Project updates will be provided as construction progresses.

The repair patching is scheduled to be substantially completed on or before December 1, 2021.  The milling, asphalt paving and striping operations is scheduled to commence in the spring of 2022 with the substantial completion date being June 1, 2022.

Motorists should expect possible changes to traffic patterns and traffic delays during construction.  Even though traffic control will be in place to allow traffic to use all the streets in the area of construction, traffic will be slowed due to lane closures.  Side streets could also be temporarily closed as the pavement operation moves through the intersections.  Parking along sections of Broadway Street will be temporarily restricted as work progresses. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible, to use extreme caution when traveling in the area of construction, and be aware of workers in the work zone.

The City of Pittsburg appreciates the patience of motorists and residents while this work is being performed.  Please contact the City of Pittsburg Public Works & Utilities Department at (620) 240-5126 with questions regarding this project.
