April 15, 2024

PITTSBURG, KS – The fourth annual Pittsburg Earth Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, April 20, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm in Downtown Pittsburg. This free event takes place at Pritchett Pavilion inside Immigrant Park and features live music, food, crafts, kid-friendly activities, and much more.

Organized by the Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC), the purpose of the Earth Day Celebration is to inform the public about environmental responsibility, and to raise awareness of the wonderful organizations and businesses that help make the Pittsburg area a great place to live. This year’s theme for Earth Day – “Planet vs. Plastics,” – calls to advocate for widespread awareness on the health risk of plastics, rapidly phase out all single use plastics.

Food and sweet treats will be available for sale from Ghetto Tacos and Jolly Trolley, and 26 community organizations will participate in this year’s festivities, providing educational experiences, demonstrations, giveaways, and activities for attendees.

The SAC is also excited to share about their native garden at Pritchett Pavilion, which was introduced in 2023 and will soon be blooming with life. Master gardeners have been invited to attend Earth Day and talk about native plants.

Pittsburg Area Young Professionals will also be at the event promoting their Earth Day Clean Up, scheduled for Sunday, April 21.
