PITTSBURG, KS – The following actions were taken at the Pittsburg City Commission Meeting on Tuesday, February 13, 2024:

Public Input:

  • Eric Johnson with the Salvation Army shared a prayer of invocation.
  • Paul Lyle with the American Red Cross Blood Services thanked the PD & Fire Departments for participating in the annual Battle of the Badges chili cookoff.
  • Roger Lomshek discussed the issue of Medicaid Expansion.

Commissioners approved the following items under the consent agenda:

  • The January 23, 2024, City Commission Meeting minutes.
  • Engaging the firm of BT&Co., P.A. for the fiscal year 2023 City audit at a cost of $42,000.
  • The Appropriation Ordinance for the period ending February 13, 2024.

The Following Items were Considered under the Main Agenda:

  • PURCHASE OF FIREWALLS – City commissioners voted to approve a purchasing agreement with the Cooperating School Districts of Greater Kansas City to acquire two firewalls, including hardware and software, from C1 in the amount of $93,652.26.
  • INSTALLATION OF FIREWALLS – Commissioners approved the purchasing agreement with the Cooperating School Districts of Greater Kansas City to contract with C1 for the installation of two firewalls in the amount of $15,450.00. Deputy City Manager Jay Byers said these improvements have long been in the works but the timeline has been accelerated due to the cyber security environment.

Non-Agenda reports and requests:

  • Nothing was discussed under non-agenda.

Pittsburg Positive:

  • Pittsburg Mayor Stu Hite recognized Gail Sheppard, known by many in the community as “Miss Gail,” the Pittsburg Public Library Youth Services Supervisor, for her tireless production of programs for children over many years. Hite encouraged the community to take advantage of the Pittsburg Public Library programs, and particularly to participate in Story Time at the library.
