PITTSBURG, KANSAS – On Monday afternoon, May 3, 2021, at approximately 12:15 PM, law enforcement officers from the Pittsburg Police Department were dispatched to the Casey’s convenience store, located at 612 S. Broadway St., in Pittsburg, in reference to a report of an accident involving a motor-vehicle colliding with the building. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a Honda Pilot, which was driven by a 16-year-old juvenile, had struck and entered the east side of the building.

The Pilot had pulled up to the front (east) side of the building, where it then jumped the curb at the walkway along the east side, and then struck the building, causing significant structural damage.

There were two passengers in the Pilot at the time of the collision; 38-year-old Travis B. Tyler and 32-year-old Veda M. Tyler, both of Pittsburg. Neither Mr., nor Mrs., Tyler reported any injuries, and there were no occupants in Casey’s who reported any injuries either.

The Pittsburg Fire Department and Crawford County EMS also responded to the scene, as did inspectors from the City of Pittsburg’s Building Safety Division.

The Pilot was able to be removed from the building under its own power, and it was not towed from the scene.

The investigation into this accident is continuing. Anyone having information related to this incident, or other incidents, is urged to contact the Pittsburg Police Department at 620-231-1700, or at our tip line, 620-231-TIPS (8477). Callers may remain anonymous.
