On Wednesday afternoon, September 23, 2026, at approximately 1 p.m., a law enforcement officer with the Pittsburg Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a tan Chevrolet pickup truck for a traffic violation in the 1200 block of East 16th Street.

During the traffic stop, the Pittsburg Police Department K9 responded to the scene and conducted an open-air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle. The K9 gave a positive indication for the presence of illegal narcotics, prompting a search of the vehicle.

During the search, officers located approximately one-half pound of suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana. A handgun was also located during the investigation. The firearm had a defaced serial number, preventing the numbers from being legible.

The passenger was identified as 38-year-old Michelle Dawn Johnson, Of Arma. Kansas. Ms. Johnson was placed under arrest for an unrelated arrest warrant issued by the District Court of Barton County, Kansas. The driver was identified as 35-year-old John Douglas Robertson Jr., of Jay, Oklahoma. Mr. Robertson was placed under arrest for the following charges:

  • Felony distribution of suspected methamphetamine
  • Felony possession of suspected methamphetamine
  • Felony defacing identification marks of a firearm
  • Felony criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Misdemeanor possession of marijuana

Both Ms. Johnson and Mr. Robertson were transported to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office for booking. Both are currently being held without bond.

Ms. Johnson and Mr. Robertson are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation into this incident is ongoing at this time.
