MEDIA RELEASE – National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Police Department Press Release

April 19, 2024

April 19, 2024

Released by Sgt. L. Romine

On Saturday, April 27th, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; the Pittsburg Police Department will be a hosting site location for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.  DEA with its other law enforcement partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs.

For more than a decade, the event has helped Americans easily rid their homes of unneeded medications – those that are old, unwanted, or expired – that too often becomes a gateway to prescription drug addiction. This annual Take Back Day has removed more than 8,300 tons of medication from circulation since this initiation began.

The Pittsburg Police Department is proud to be able to provide our community with the ability to responsibly dispose of medication. Anyone wishing to dispose of unwanted prescription medication is encouraged to bring them to the Pittsburg Police Department, located at 201 N. Pine St., Pittsburg, Kansas, on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This service is free of charge and individuals can remain anonymous. For more information about this service, or other hosting site locations, please visit the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s website at DEATakeBack.com.

*Please keep sharps, needles, injectors and aerosol containers (inhalers) separate from other prescription medications. Due to their nature, these items will need to be disposed of separately. *
