At 1:30 a.m. on April 21, the Pittsburg Fire Department responded to a fire in the 400 block of West 7th Street.
The initial crew arrived within four minutes of dispatch and observed smoke coming from the structure. A working fire was confirmed, and crews deployed a hose line to extinguish it.
Crawford County Kansas EMS and the Pittsburg Police Department also responded and assisted at the scene. The residence was vacant at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The structure sustained significant damage.
During firefighting operations, sediment within the water main was temporarily stirred, creating a brief operational challenge. This is not unusual and is one of the reasons the City conducts annual hydrant flushing to maintain system reliability.
The fire remains under investigation by the Kansas State Fire Marshal and the Pittsburg Police Department.
