Board Responsibilities:

This board has seven members, each serving a three-year term (can serve two full terms). Four members are required to be airport users, while three must be non-users. Board functions include reviewing all policies affecting airport operation, setting fees, and determining projects.

Board Responsibilities:

The Downtown Advisory Board (DAB) acts as a deliberative and review body representing the interests of downtown property owners, residents and merchants (the downtown community).  This board is composed of seven members, with one member representing the hospitality industry; one member representing the retail industry; one member being a property owner; one member living in the Downtown Overlay District (DO); and three members serving at large with a vested interest in the Downtown Overlay District. Members serve two-year terms.

Board Responsibilities:

The Farmers’ Market Advisory Board is comprised of five (5) volunteer members, who are appointed by the City Commission. Two appointees to the board are current dues-paying vendors at the Pittsburg Area Farmers’ Market; one appointee shall be a member of Eat Well/Live Well Crawford County or a similar organization; one appointee shall be a member at large; and one appointee shall be a current employee of the Kansas State Research and Extension office (Wildcat Extension District). Preference may be given to applicants residing in the City of Pittsburg. Appointees shall be drawn from diverse segments of the public, and shall be selected for their wisdom, broad perspective, and ability to assist in planning and development of the Pittsburg Area Farmers’ Market.

Board Responsibilities:

The Pittsburg Land Bank is an independent agency and instrumentality of the City with the primary responsibility and authority to efficiently acquire, hold, manage, transform, and convey surplus City properties and other abandoned, tax-foreclosed, or otherwise underutilized or distressed properties in order to convey these properties into productive use. The seven members of this board serve three-year terms.

Board Responsibilities:

The Library Board of Trustees meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 4:30 pm. Primary functions of this board include the review of library operating policies and programs, hiring the library director, setting the budget, and making financial decisions in all areas of library operation and facility matters. Seven members of this board, each serving a four-year term, are each a resident of the City of Pittsburg.

Board Responsibilities:

The Memorial Auditorium Advisory Board reviews and recommends items for programming of events at the facility, fee structure, etc. Five residents of the City of Pittsburg and two non-Pittsburg residents make up this seven-member advisory board. Members serve four-year terms.

Board Responsibilities:

This Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC) has 12 volunteer board members, each serving a two-year term. Volunteers to the board are residents (property owners and renters) living within the Pittsburg city limits who represent all four quadrants within the city. The NAC was created in 2023 to support the city-wide cleanup efforts and create a council of citizens that can access both public and private resources; and provide leadership, support, and information on neighborhood issues.

Board Responsibilities:

Residents of the City of Pittsburg and those who live within eight miles of 4th and Broadway are eligible to serve on the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, which has five members, each serving four-year terms. Board members review and recommend programs, recreational activities, fees, etc., for the department. They also review the status of the park facilities and make recommendations in regard to expansion, renovation or maintenance.

Board Responsibilities:

The Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC) is composed of seven (7) volunteer members appointed by the City Commission. Each member serves a two-year term and all members must have an interest in the promotion and establishment of sustainability issues, programs and practices. Members assist the City Commission and City staff to establish goals and priorities for future environmental protection practices involving waste reduction, recycling, energy conservation and natural resources. Members also assist with educating the community to promote sustainability practices and programs.

Board Responsibilities:

Each serving a three-year term, this board has seven members, all of which are required to be residents of the City of Pittsburg. This board reviews requests for variances in zoning ordinances, such as building setback requirements, building sizes, etc. Members of this commission review and adopt (as well as update) the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Pittsburg, establish zoning districts and allowable uses, review zoning regulations within the city and review requests for special permits or conditional uses within certain zoning districts in the city. Site plans for planned areas are also reviewed when this commission meets. Five members must reside within the city limits, while two members may live outside the city limits, but within a 3-mile radius of the city.

Board Responsibilities:

This committee has seven members, each serving a three-year term. Although there are no requirements for this committee, business expertise is helpful. Meeting at City Hall on an as-needed basis, as applications are submitted for review, this committee makes recommendations to the City Commission on financial applications of businesses wanting to use Revolving Loan Funds from sales tax monies earmarked for business development. Tax abatement requests from new and existing businesses and industries are also reviewed.
