National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Pittsburg Police Department will be a hosting site location for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The DEA, along with its other law enforcement partners, will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription medication.

For sixteen years, DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day has helped Americans safely dispose of unneeded medications – those that are old, unwanted, or expired – to prevent drug misuse and abuse.

The Pittsburg Police Department is proud to once again host as a collection site as part of Take Back Day, offering free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications joining nearly 4,500 drop-off locations nationwide. To date, Kansas drop-off locations have collected 291,771 pounds of unwanted medications and prescriptions, including 6,562 pounds during the April 25, 2026, DEA Take Back Day.

Anyone wishing to dispose of unwanted prescription medication is encouraged to bring them to the Pittsburg Police Department, located at 201 N. Pine St., Pittsburg, Kansas, on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This service is free of charge and individuals can remain anonymous. For more information about this service, or other hosting site locations, please visit the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s website at DEATakeBack.com.

*Please keep sharps, needles, injectors and aerosol containers (inhalers) separate from other prescription medications. Due to their nature, these items will need to be disposed of separately. *
