Fingerprinting Fingerprinting for employment purposes costs $25, cash or check only. This fee must be paid for with cash or check. Fingerprinting by appointment only.

Bike Registration Bike Registration is a free service available for anyone interested.

To register with the Pittsburg Police Department, bring your bike to the Records desk in the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center during regular business hours. Bike owners will be issued a tamper evident sticker that correlates to their contact information.

The Bike Registration program is designed to allow officers of the Pittsburg Police Department to recover bicycles in the event of a natural disaster or theft, and return them to their rightful owner quicker than before.

Car Seat Check The Pittsburg Police Department provides free car seat installations by certified individuals. Car seat checks are by appointment only.

Records Requests Individuals may request a criminal report or accident report. Requests can be made in person, or they can call ahead.

Blue Envelope Program The blue envelope is designed to signal to law enforcement that the driver may need additional accommodation, promoting more understanding and safer interactions.

It stores important documents related to traffic stops in one place, such as the driver’s license, registration, insurance, and communication tips clearly printed for drivers and/or occupants and law enforcement officers.

Participation is voluntary, and the program is free and accessible to anyone who wishes to utilize it.

To receive a Blue Envelope, individuals must contact the Pittsburg Police Department at 620-235-0400 to schedule an appointment.

Education & Outreach

Ride-Along The Ride -A-Long program allows citizens a chance to gain a first-hand account of what Officers experience on a day-to-day basis. Participants will accompany officers as they respond to calls for service, investigate crimes, enforce traffic laws, and arrest suspects.

All participants must be 18 years of age and pass a complete background investigation.

Applications must be filled out at the Pittsburg Police Department.

D.A.R.E. The D.A.R.E. program provides lessons on self-esteem, dealing with peer pressure, and avoiding violence to hundreds fifth-grade students at all USD 250 and St. Mary’s elementary schools every year.

The DARE program participates in numerous community events throughout the year, helping build positive relationships and promote safety and drug prevention education.

Citizens' Academy The annual Citizens’ Academy allows Pittsburg residents, workers, and students the opportunity to learn about the functions of the Department firsthand by participating in a ten-week course of classroom and practical education.

All applicants must be 18 years of age and must reside, work, own a business, or attend college within the city limits of Pittsburg. The Pittsburg Police Department reserves the right to deny entry based on the findings of a background check.

Partnerships

Flock The Pittsburg Police Department partners with Flock Safety to enhance public safety through the use of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology and other advanced software features.

These cameras capture vehicle characteristics and license plate information from public roadways to assist in locating stolen vehicles, identifying vehicles associated with criminal activity, and generating investigative leads. The system does not use facial recognition technology and is utilized solely for legitimate law enforcement and public safety purposes. By combining this technology with traditional policing methods, the department can investigate crimes more efficiently, recover stolen property, and improve outcomes for victims while maintaining a commitment to privacy, accountability, and responsible use of technology.
