Atkinson Municipal Airport
The Atkinson Municipal Airport is a publicly owned, public-use general aviation facility operated by the City of Pittsburg and is an important part of the transportation system in the region. Located 1 1/4 miles west of Broadway Avenue (US 69 Highway) on Atkinson Road, it is home to six corporate jets, many private fixed wing aircraft and two helicopters, all housed in City provided hangars. The main runway (16/34) was extended to 6,100 feet in 2017.
The Kansas Aeronautical Facility Plan and the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (N.P.I.A.S.) classifies the Atkinson Municipal Airport as a General Utility, Stage II airport. Based on current conditions, the airport is designated as having an F.A.A. Airport Reference Code (A.R.C.) of C-II.
