On Thursday, April 19, more than 250 citizens and business leaders gathered at the Memorial Auditorium to hear the state of the City address, delivered by Pittsburg Mayor Jeremy Johnson. The program highlighted the ways the City is moving forward together. The mayor began his address on a personal note, sharing why Pittsburg was important to him and his family.
“I’ve been a resident of Pittsburg for nearly my entire life,” said Johnson. “But what I have found is that it’s only been very recently that Pittsburg has started transforming into the sort of place that I and my family want to live.”
The mayor emphasized the importance of City leadership and civic engagement, and pointed to Block22 as a significant achievement in the revitalization of Pittsburg’s downtown district.
“It is, without a doubt, the thing I’ve been the proudest of supporting as a commissioner — though I can’t claim credit for it,” said Johnson. “There were so many people along the way that helped make this thing a reality, that I would be way out of line to claim as my own. But in creating it, we as a community have set in motion one of the greatest drivers of possibility going forward that Pittsburg has maybe ever seen.”
The mayor called upon City staff to expand on three key areas of focus, including economic development, community health, and marketing.
