Our Mission
To provide safe, reliable and high quality water, wastewater and stormwater systems with superior service and value.

The Department of Public Utilities oversees and manages a variety of municipal utility activities, including water treatment facilities, water storage, pump stations, and distribution systems; and wastewater collection, lift stations and treatment plant operations; and the municipal storm sewer system, including collection and treatment if required. The Public Utilities Department establishes municipal utility and capital improvement projects and communicates with consulting engineers in the design of such projects, coordinates projects involving federal, state and local funding, supervises the construction and maintenance of water, wastewater and stormwater system improvements, participates in the preparation of the City’s capital improvement program and supervises the compilation of cost data and estimates. The Department submits information and communicates with federal and state agencies relative to meeting permits and compliance matters concerning federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations. The Department is charged with providing safe drinking water and disposal of wastes to protect public safety, health and welfare.
