PITTSBURG, KS – The City of Pittsburg was awarded $1.5 million from the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) to complete infrastructure improvements at the intersection of Joplin St. and 4th St. (K-126).

On September 13, Governor Laura Kelly announced $22 million for projects to improve intersections and state highways extending through cities as part of KDOT’s Connecting Link Improvement Program (CCLIP), which includes federal and state grant dollars. Pittsburg is one of 27 cities in Kansas awarded CCLIP funding for the 2025-2026 fiscal year awarding period.

The infrastructure improvements covered in this project include adding left turn lanes on Joplin St., increasing turning radii, pavement replacement, and traffic signals on 4th St. and Joplin St. The project is expected to begin in 2026.

As CCLIP is a matching grant program, the city will be required to contribute a minimum of 10 percent, cover all right-of-way and utility costs, and other expenses above the awarded amount.
