September is Suicide Awareness Month, a time to honor life, promote hope, and remind one another that no one walks alone. In recognition of this cause, Family Response Advocates are hosting a Sidewalk of Hope event to spread encouragement and positivity.
The event will start at 9 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, at the Pittsburg Police Department located at 201 N. Pine Street, Pittsburg, KS.
“Together, let’s stand as a community of encouragement and light,” Family Response Advocate Diann Gambill said. “We will gather in front of the Pittsburg Police Department to decorate the sidewalks with positive affirmations, uplifting words, and encouraging messages. These chalk creations will serve as powerful reminders of hope for everyone who passes by, to all neighbors, community members, and officers alike.”
Chalk will be provided; just bring your creativity and caring spirit. Everyone is welcome, whether you draw, write, or simply come to show support. Other organizations are also encouraged to join, Gambill said.
“Every message written is a step toward breaking the silence surrounding suicide and mental health,” Gambill said. “By filling the sidewalks with kindness and encouragement, we create a visible symbol of compassion that honors those we’ve lost, support those who are struggling, and celebrates the value of life.”
