Kaylyn Hite appointed as City Prosecutor

City Press Releases, General News

September 26, 2025

The City of Pittsburg recently announced the appointment of Kaylyn Hite as its new City Prosecutor. Hite officially began her role on Sept. 22 and will be responsible for prosecuting traffic violations and misdemeanor offenses within city limits. She will also provide essential legal counsel to the Pittsburg Police Department.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Kaylyn Hite as City Prosecutor,” City Manager Daron Hall said. “Her expertise and compassion make her ideal for this role. We’re confident she will serve with integrity.”

In her new position, Hite aims to be a compassionate advocate for individuals navigating the court system.

“For some, this is their first experience with the legal system,” Hite said. “I want to help guide them through the process, make it less intimidating, and hopefully ensure they never find themselves in that situation again.”

Hite will continue leading the Pathways to Hope deferred sentencing program—a collaborative initiative with Crawford County Mental Health and the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas.

“I’ve seen it work,” she said. “You see the same individuals struggling with recurring issues. “Often, it’s not malicious behavior—they just lack resources or need extra support. Thanks to this program, we’re seeing fewer repeat cases.”

About Kaylyn Hite

A native of Cherokee, KS, Hite grew up on a farm and is a proud Southeast Lancer. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Pittsburg State University before pursuing her law degree at Washburn University in Topeka.

Although she built strong connections in Topeka, Hite always felt drawn back to Southeast Kansas. During summer breaks, she returned to Pittsburg, eventually planting her professional roots in the community. After her first year of law school, she reached out to Spigarelli Law Firm, which offered her a summer position. She returned each summer and was later hired as an attorney after graduation.

“When it rains, it pours,” Hite said, reflecting on the whirlwind years following graduation, which included a pandemic, marriage, and a career shift to Fleming Law Firm to practice a more generalized practice including family law, criminal law and estate planning.

She later transitioned to defense work, serving in that capacity for the past five years before stepping into her new role as City Prosecutor.

Hite is deeply involved in the Pittsburg community. She is a member of the Pittsburg Sunrise Rotary (past president and current secretary), a Pittsburg Area Chamber Ambassador and board member, and an active alumna of Tri Sigma and a member of PEO. She also serves on the Crawford County Bar Association.

Outside of her professional and civic duties, Hite enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, and attending football games.
