Pittsburg Fire Department Chief Taylor Cerne is stepping into a more hands-on operational role as Battalion Chief. He will continue serving as Interim Fire Chief until a permanent replacement is named.
“Second to my family, the Fire Department is really near and dear to my heart,” Cerne said. “Serving the community and the people is where my passion lies, and I’m excited to get back to hands-on operations.”
As Battalion Chief, Cerne will manage and lead a team of firefighters in the field and will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing emergency response operations.
Cerne has served as Fire Chief for three years. During that time, he secured the purchase of a new engine, and a second engine is currently in the process of being purchased. His team also updated and replaced all of their self-contained breathing apparatus. Although the fire training project at Fire Station 2’s burn building began before his tenure as Chief, Cerne and his crew were able to begin implementing it.
“The support from my crews and the support from the city was amazing,” Cerne said. “They did their absolute best to make sure I was caught up to speed on what I needed to do and how to approach a lot of things I was unfamiliar with.”
Pittsburg City Manager Daron Hall said he’s grateful to have Cerne continue serving in the Fire Department.
“I appreciate Chief Cerne’s dedicated service over the past three years,” Hall said. “We are grateful that he will continue working with the Fire Department and playing such an important role in safeguarding our community.”
