After nearly 30 years as the Pittsburg City Prosecutor, John Mazurek departs on Sept. 24 and, on Sept. 29 will start his new position as Judge of the District Court in the 11th Judicial District.
“John leaves a legacy of justice and has always led with compassion,” City Manager Daron Hall said. “We congratulate John on the opportunity to serve at the county level.”
During his tenure as City Prosecutor, Mazurek prosecuted traffic violations and misdemeanor offenses within city limits. In addition, he offered essential legal counsel to the Pittsburg Police Department.
Among Mazurek’s proudest contributions is his involvement in the Pathways to Hope initiative. This program, rather than defaulting to fines and incarceration, connects unhoused individuals or those struggling with mental illness to services and treatment options.
“Pathways to Hope, a collaboration with Crawford County Mental Health and the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, is helping people during a great time of need,” Mazurek said. “We are seeing considerable success with the program.”
Throughout his tenure, Mazurek emphasized collaboration and credited his success to the outstanding staff around him.
“Abby Adamson and Melissa Glor do a fantastic job,” he said.
As a judge in Crawford County, Mazurek will preside over a wide range of cases, including adoptions, family law, criminal matters, and civil lawsuits.
“It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to serve the people of Pittsburg,” he said. “I look forward to continuing that service in a new capacity.”
