Downtown Strategic Plan
What is a downtown strategic plan?
- A vision for the future of downtown created by the community for the community to record shared goals and desires for downtown Pittsburg.
- An assessment of what downtown looks like today and the challenges and opportunities that exist, evaluating such as land use, connectivity, quality of life, aesthetics, character, parking, and more.
- A road map for the future that is strategically crafted and coordinated to guide the growth and redevelopment of downtown.
Community Engagement Process
The City of Pittsburg and Downtown Advisory Board with the help of Olsson Design Team hosted a two-day Downtown Planning & Design Charrette and Downtown Community Conversation on May 29 – 30 to gather input from residents and downtown stakeholders. During these planning sessions, attendees contemplated the impact of three potential developments being considered for the downtown area, including PittState’s Gorilla Rising project, a sports complex, and a hotel and conference center.
Key Findings & Insights
During the Planning & Design Charrette, Olsson Design Team shared key findings including existing conditions, land use, connectivity, quality of life, aesthetics, character, parking, and more. This presentation was given to downtown stakeholders during the planning meetings and we are making it available for everyone to view!
“Virtual” Open House
For those who could not attend our Downtown Community Conversation in-person, Olsson Design Team has published a “virtual” open house survey, where the community can share their feedback online!
PLEASE NOTE: Any of the site drawings shared are simply examples used to initiate discussion about potential impacts. No plans were finalized during the community meetings. The city is looking ahead at the potential impacts in the downtown area. With the exception of Gorilla Rising, the city is not aware of any plans to develop any of the conceptual projects at any location. These concepts meant to generate an overall vision for the future of downtown and “what could be.”
