The planning team is still working on our table details for Earth Day. We know we will have membership flyers and info/sign-ups. We also hope to have information on what SEKR takes in the tunnel, and how those materials can be organized to facilitate this process. Also, including what materials SEKR does NOT recycle. We are also considering giveaways or a prize drawing, but do not yet have this finalized. Thank you!

This volunteer opportunity, which takes place the following day from 10 AM - 2 PM, will give residents the option to sign up for a 1-hour timeslot so they can help our organization clean up litter around Pittsburg at several targeted locations. We are expecting at least 50 volunteers to take part this year.

It would mostly consist of giving the participants a chance to fill their own peat pots with soil, plant food, seeds, etc. Participants can take with them directions on how to tend to the seedlings and handouts that discuss the importance of milkweed for Monarch butterfly habitats.
Additional activity could include a station for participants to put together seed bombs with seeds for different wildflowers.

DON'T THROW--JUST SEW!!!
  • No

What should I do with all of my husband's dress shirts? I'm tired of these sweaters but they are too good to throw away! I just saw these cute jeans in a catalog for $75!!! Hmmmmmmm. How often have you had these thoughts?
I want to demonstrate how to take old clothes that you don't want and make them look fresh again. I will display recycled clothes that have been redesigned. Most importantly, I want to talk to visitors about what/how to do these projects. My booth will hopefully inspire people to reconsider what they dispose of and how to shop at thrift shops for clothes that can be redesigned and repurposed! I will also have bags made out of feed sacks for sale.
