Waste Water Collection System Operator

Location: Pittsburg, KS

Clean, repair and televise sanitary sewer lines. Operates sewer cleaning and televising equipment to determine problem areas.

• Ensure all collection system facilities and underground pipe functions properly, to protect the public and health and safety;
• Maintain work records relating to the scheduling of maintenance of the collections system;
• Drive trucks to transport materials and equipment;
• Communicate with supervisors and other workers, using equipment such as wireless phones, pagers or radios;
• Operate sewer cleaning equipment;
• Perform inspections of repaired sewer line before backfilling;
• Examine pipes for evidence of mud, roots, grease and other deposits indicating broken or clogged sewer lines;
• Perform utility locates prior to excavation;
• Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

• Wastewater collections system operations and maintenance;
• Computer operation;
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction;
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance;
• Safety and training practices and procedures associated with wastewater collection system operations including state and federal environmental regulations.


Requirements

Work may involve 24-hour availability during emergency situations. The primary duties of this classification are performed outdoors and may include working in adverse weather conditions.

Standing and walking on concrete, tile and uneven terrain, sitting, reaching outward, climbing, crawling, squatting, kneeling, bending, handling tools, lifting. Ability to manipulate hand tools, reach valves and dials, collect samples, shoveling.
