Special Prosecution Clerk

Perform varied legal clerical work for the Special Prosecutor of the Crawford County Attorney’s Office which involves considerable public contact work, processing, filing and reporting case file information from public and law enforcement agencies, issuing subpoenas, and preparing prosecution records and dockets.  Requires in-depth knowledge of Kansas state statutes and rules of the Crawford County District Court. All work must be performed accurately and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures, and Federal/State guidelines regarding the privacy and security of records.


Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalency; experience in a criminal court setting or considerable general clerical experience in a related legal field preferred; or any combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Applicant must be able to pass background check and post offer employment drug testing. Applicants must complete and submit the REQUIRED DOCUMENT for background check authorization.


Requirements

Exercise professional discretion while performing daily activities independently within established guidelines and procedures with minimal supervision.

Operate standard and specialized office equipment including a personal computer using various program applications appropriate for assigned duties, calculator, copy machine, facsimile, and other related equipment.

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Read, compose, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos using basic legal terminology and

maintain both numeric and alphabetical filing systems.

Maintain a professional demeanor during stressful situations.

Compile reports from a wide variety of sources and transmit data.

Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public, departmental staff, law enforcement, Court personnel, County personnel, attorneys, service providers and others associated with daily Court business.

Make sound and reasonable decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established procedures.

Maintain strict confidentiality within all aspects of job duties and assignments.

REQUIRED LANGUAGE SKILLS :Interact with defense attorneys, Crawford County employees, the Crawford County District Court, and coworkers to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Interact with people who are confused, angry, or openly hostile to ensure clarification of court procedures and related legal requirements. Prepare memos and letters in communicating with others including employees, management, the Court, and attorneys.

REQUIRED REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
