POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision by the Building Official, perform inspection and enforcement duties of the City’s zoning, sign, ordinances, and neighborhood code enforcement programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives and responds to complaints or inquiries regarding public nuisance, etc. explains code requirements, established policies and procedures; may develop alternative methods to achieve code compliance with established guidelines
  • Encourage voluntary compliance with codes and voluntary resolution of violations and conflicts
  • Prepares legal documentation for prosecution of violators in municipal or district court
  • Assists with program implementation, coordination, enforcement, and education duties
  • Serves as liaison between citizens and other city departments, presenting citizen views and opinions to city staff
  • Facilitates discussion of neighborhood problems and resolutions
  • Administer and enforce the City of Pittsburg Zoning Code, and related Pittsburg codes as it relates to land use. Inspect signs, with or without issued permit, for compliance to applicable ordinances
  • Prepare information for assessments for approval by the City Commission for properties that needed corrective action to be taken by the City
  • Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions. Follows City-wide safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring

Qualifications

POSITION COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to maintain calm and professional demeanor while handling interactions with the public
  • Thorough knowledge of city nuisance codes and enforcement actions
  • Familiarity with purpose of Zoning Code in land-use control
  • High proficiency using technology/camera/computers
  • Good oral and written communication skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions; requires prolonged periods of walking, standing, driving, writing, and visual acuity.


Requirements

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, ability to read, understand, and enforce the City’s ordinances and the current adopted IPMC, ability to interact with the public and coworkers in a professional and calm and courteous manner
