Aquatic Center Manager

It’s time for fun in the summer time with the City of Pittsburg Parks and Recreation Department.

The Aquatic Center Manager is responsible for the operation of the City swimming pool facilities and associated aquatics programs. Employees of this class supervise and evaluate staff in the pool operation during the aquatics season. Incumbents determine staff necessary for the supervision of pool activities, including: preparing work schedules and assigning personnel to duty stations, observing pool attendance, and adding or shifting lifeguards and concession staff to ensure proper coverage.

Work involves:

Replenishing supplies as needed, directing or conducting in-service training activities

Monitoring the performance of staff engaged in life guarding. Incumbents are expected to take corrective action in dealing with unacceptable practices. Provides program information, resolves problems and complaints made by the public in a diplomatic manner, adjusts improper conduct, notifies parents or relatives of an emergency situation, instructs staff on job responsibilities, scheduling equipment, interacts accordingly with media, etc. Provides input for consideration of changes or modifications in policies, procedures, programs, and solutions to problems. Punctually opens and closes the pool and ensures aquatic center management and staff is on duty any time pool is open. Provides excellent customer service and sets the example for the team.

Produces written documents such as: incident and accident reports.

Prepares daily records of receipts, maintains accurate financial records, and submits necessary reports.

Maintains, analyzes, and submits pertinent records in respect to: daily patron admissions and revenue, accidents, rescues and assists, and first aid. Ensures aquatic center is cleaned daily. Secures and locks fences and buildings at closing.

Duties also involve: training staff; maintaining records; preparing reports on pool activities and operation; directing the cleaning, general operation, maintenance of pool facilities; implementing special events; interacting with media, accounting and balancing daily revenue and completing daily revenue forms.


Qualifications

Four to six seasons with considerable experience as a swim instructor/life guard

Experience managing public swimming pools and supervising staff

Ability to work independently and proficiently


Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent

Certified swimming instructor and life guard certification

CPR and First Aid Certification required prior to season opening; proof is required

Valid driver’s license

Extensive experience with cash handling

Aquatics supervisory experience required
