Downtown Development

Downtown, Pittsburg serves as a reminder of the past and a promise for the future. We are proud of our historic district and make sure to care for it.  In 2009, the City of Pittsburg completed a $3 million streetscape program, significantly improving the infrastructure in our downtown district with new sidewalks, lighting and more. Our community has invested more than $52 million in the last decade, largely from private investors, a testament to our commitment to downtown revitalization.

Set to complete in the fall of 2019, Block22 is an innovative project that highlights partnerships between the City of Pittsburg, Pittsburg State University and Vecino Group.

This unique, living-learning community, focused on students who thrive in art, commerce and technology, transforms 4th and Broadway into an entrepreneurial epicenter and retail hub. Combining 100 units of student housing with more than 16,000 square feet of innovation space for students to explore their own entrepreneurial ventures, Block22 also boasts a robust co-working space and makerspace.

The City and PSU recently announced three new restaurants coming to Block22 in the fall, offering additional food, drink and nightlife options for students and Pittsburg residents alike. This unique development will further elevate our downtown district as the center of culture, art, and entertainment in the City.

Downtown Advisory Board

The City’s Downtown Advisory Board is a citizen-lead review body, which represents the interests of downtown business owners, residents and stakeholders. This group of Pittsburg residents volunteer their time and expertise to advise the City staff and City Commission on downtown matters.
