Mt. Olive Cemetery
Although the history found in Mt. Olive Cemetery dates back to the 1800's, the City of Pittsburg has only owned and operated the cemetery since 1992. Located at 402 East Quincy, the cemetery employs one full time and one part time caretaker. According to the official records of Mt. Olive Cemetery, the first burial in the cemetery was on June 3, 1888. The cemetery currently holds over 12,548 graves, 5,881 burial lots have been purchased and reserved for future use, and an additional 2,018 burial lots are available for purchase. The Governing Body recently voted to close two streets located within the cemetery, adding in excess of 150 additional spaces to the cemetery. The Mt. Olive Abbey is also located within the cemetery. This mausoleum houses over 500 crypts. Presently, more than 125 of the crypts are occupied. Today, Mt. Olive Cemetery, including the Mt. Olive Abbey, is under the leadership of Jon Garrison, Director of Finance and Administration.
