Police
The Pittsburg Police Department welcomes you to our redesigned website. The focus of the Pittsburg Police Department is to provide excellent, consistent customer-service, while fulfilling the traditional law enforcement role of community safety and security. We reaffirm our commitment to be a helpful, viable force in the community. Paramount to the success of any community policing initiative is community involvement. Our goal is to foster mutual trust, and encourage everyone to participate more fully in our community.
We ask that you continue to look through our website, especially the programs section, which includes the Pittsburg SAFE KIDS Chapter and the Car Seat Fitting Station. These recent additions to the Pittsburg Police Department are designed to enhance the safety of our community’s children. For example, the DARE program, started in 1991, has been taught to over 10,000 of our city’s children. It teaches the dangers of drugs and violence. These programs foster a positive relationship between children and officers. Please look over our website and contact us if you have any comments or questions. Thank you.
Community Oriented Policing
Our Community Oriented Policing efforts are aimed at problem solving, apprehension of those involved in on-going criminal activity, and providing services. COP is enhancing the quality of life through cooperation between our department and the citizens of Pittsburg.
AT&T Excellence in Community Policing In 1997, the Pittsburg Community Oriented Policing (COP) program was one of five similar undertakings across Kansas selected to receive AT&T Excellence in Community Policing awards. The awards were given at the Koch Crime Commission's 1997 Kansas Conference on Crime and Community. AT&T awarded a plaque and donated $1000 to the Pittsburg COP Leadership Council, to be used for COP programs in Pittsburg. The men and women of the Pittsburg Police Department are grateful to AT&T, and the many Community Oriented Policing Leadership Council members who worked hard to make the program a grassroots success story.
