Kansas Gas Service Training
KGS Training

Members of the Pittsburg Fire Department participated in a
rescue training exercise with the local Kansas Gas Service (KGS).

The scenario involved an eight foot deep hole and collapse cage.  This is a common situation that employees of the Kansas Gas Service find themselves in during repairs and maintenance on underground gas service lines.  An employee with the KGS was placed at the bottom of the hole to represent a trapped and possibly injured employee.  The fire department has several members that belong to the Kansas Task Force 4 which is a regional technical rescue team that can be deployed by the State for rescue operations.  With their assistance, the KGS employee received medical care and was safely rescued from the hole within seventeen minutes.  This training was the first of what is hoped to be a continued training partnership between the KGS and the Pittsburg Fire Department.
